Martin,
Terry's son was always in the yard, ready to help and learn
the tricks of the trade. From his father he inherited 'an
eye for a good boat' and learned the ways of a traditional
boatbuilder. He has now been running the yard for over 15
years and little has changed in this time - the boats are
still built to the same, strong traditional standards.
The 23'
Falmouth Working Boat has strength which is inherent in both
the design and the construction. The hull lay-up is impressive.
It is hand laid and the deck beams and carlins are assembled
in the traditional manner. The deck itself is ¾"
plywood sheathed in two layers of glass to render the whole
area watertight, and if required, a teak finish may be laid.
The cabin
structure is again wood with glass-sheathed plywood for the
cabin furniture. For the layout its down to the customer with
the only restriction being that the forward bulkhead must
be positioned just aft of the mast, be it deck or keep stepped.
The interior
space is amazing and no boats are identical. However over
the years, this has become standardised to a degree.
Under
sail the 23' Falmouth Working Boat comes into her own. She
is exceptionally well balanced, she will in true oyster dredger
style, respond readily to sail trim.
