Tregatreath
Yacht Yard is a family run business. It lies on the banks
of Mylor Creek, about half way between Carrick Roads and Mylor
Bridge. The present proprietor is Martin Heard, but the story
of Tregatreath begins with his father, Terry Heard.
Terry's
career began at the Mylor Dockyard, then a small lay-up and
repair yard at the mouth of the creek, but by the early sixties,
he became self-employed. He lived alongside the creek in a
small cottage with a short stretch of foreshore where he worked
on local boats, building and repairing, and when he sold his
own dredger, The Beatrice, a 1905 Brabyns-built boat, he designed
a new 25 Footer which he built in the garage and launched
as the Result.
